Non-ICT related job

Architect

Architect is a job where people plan, design and oversee the construction of buildings. They create an image of the building and how it should be laid out. A part of their work is to consider the public safety so they consider things such as stability of the building so that it won’t collapse from the inside or topple over. They can work on individual buildings or on large redevelopment schemes, and can be responsible for the design of the surrounding landscape and spaces.

Description in 1987:

In 1987 architects would have hand drawn the blue print for the building with great care and precision because if there calculations were wrong it could cause the building to collapse. They would of done all calulations in their head and from their knowledge of physics. All measurements would have had to be done by hand.

How ICT Affected Architects:

Now with technology they can create a 3D blueprint of a buliding to create an all around view of the building to show a better idea of what the building will look like. Using computers they can do all calculations to work out the physics behind the construction and the use of technology makes it much more accurate. Geometry software which can work lengths, angles, etc which improves efficiency which reduces time taken to plan or design. The use of ICT in general for architecture is useful as it improves the accuracy of the calculations which is needed as just one small mathematical error can cause the whole building design to fail. The use of ICT improves the speed of the whole process as the blue print designs for the buildings are done much faster on computer than by hand.
